Congruency played a big part in this project in that both the bigger scale model we made and the smaller model both had to be very congruent. Similarity- the state or fact of being similar. Similarity also played a big part in this project because both our models had to be very similar and match each other but had to change in size and get bigger or smaller. We had to proportion our models to scale one bigger than the other. Our models were very congruent and very proportional. We dilated our original logo 2x. Even a 2x dilation made the logo much bigger than the first.
Project Description
The main purpose of this project was to teach us the about similarity and congruency and dilation and I think I learned all three of those subjects very well. We executed this project by figuring out what logo or item we wanted to scale and we figured we wanted to scale a BMW logo. Once we figured that out we were going to do that logo we had to figure out what size and how we were going to make the logo. We thought 3D printing but realized that wouldn't be able to print big enough so we decided to laser cut.
Mathematical Concepts
Congruency is when forms are identical, and similarity is the state of being similar. I understand these two topics very well because I had to include them both in my model of the BMW logo. Similarity and proportion are included together because they help assure that an object or shape are the same size and are the same. Similarity and dilation play a part together because when an object is dilated it gets bigger, and when the object gets bigger the object has to stay the same just get bigger.
Exhibition
The process of this project was a to figure out how to dilate and scale an object bigger than the actual size or to make the object smaller. When we made the models of the BMW logo we did 2 different sizes. One of the sizes was the original BMW logo, 3 inches. I figured it would be simple to just dilate it 2x, because it adds a lot of area to the circle and makes it a lot bigger with even that little amount of dilation.
Reflection
I learned a lot with this project. I never really had trouble with the project because I chose something fairly easy. I wish I would've challenged myself a little more. I am very happy with how my project turned out and I love the laser cut BMW logo's.
