For this final project, for the end of the year we had to pick a mental disorder, and a partner. For this project I picked depression and I had to do a series of projects and work with that topic. The first assignment I had to write was a case report. I wrote this case report on depression and it had the symptoms, history, research, treatment, and statistics for the disorder. I wrote this and by the time I was done with my case report I was very familiar with my illness. After this I started my short story, it was 4 pages long and 1400 words about a depressed teenage boy. I made my story as realistic as I could but still obviously not following off of anyone's real life. After this I researched Art therapy. Art therapy is a type of therapy where you can do many different types of art and it hopefully will help issues. For depression there are many different types of art as with other sicknesses but for depression I chose to do line art. I chose line art because I felt that it was something that doesn't take very long but it helps you get your emotions out. The key question was "how can you intertwine all your emotions into one line?
Throughout this project, I've learned so much about depression, and I've learned how to write a case report, how to write a creative short story, and how art therapy works with depression. I learned that depression has different triggers, genes provide only some of the answers, depression affects the whole body not just the mind, depression might be a gut feeling, depressed brains look different, its linked to other health problems, depressed people might not look depressed, exercise helps depression, more than one antidepressant may be needed, therapy is needed too, warming up could help, and depression is a leading cause of disabilities.
This exhibition wasn't as exciting as the last one I felt like, but I had fun with it setting up my table and seeing peoples line art. I really enjoyed exhibition this semester. This
